Coming into this year almost everybody’s rankings had teams like Ohio State, Penn State and possibly even Oregon in their preseason top 10. Unfortunately as of now we won’t get to see those teams play this fall along with the rest of the teams in their respective conferences. Ohio State is coming off a loss in the CFB Playoff semifinal and looked to have a huge year this season, Penn State looked to make their first playoff appearance with star LB Micah Parsons leading one of the best defenses in the nation but no one will get to see that this fall. As of now 3 of the 5 power 5 conferences are still playing so I will have to base my rankings around those teams and not including Penn State or Ohio State who without a doubt would have been somewhere on this list. With all that being said let’s get into my top 10 for this season.
#1 Clemson Tigers
I don’t think this comes as a surprise to anyone, the Clemson Tigers we’re one of the best teams in the nation last year ans look to do the same this year. Trevor Lawerence is the presumptive 1st overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft playing alongside an all time Clemson great RB in Travis Etienne and having one of the best defensive units in the nation. Expect big things from this team once again this year.
#2 Alabama Crimson Tide
You can always pencil Alabama in for no less than a 3 spot ranking, year in and year out they’re apart of the top teams in the SEC with no signs of slowing down. One thing that worries me about this team is the QB situation but either way we all know Saban will find a way to figure it out and win.
#3 Florida Gators
I am just about as high as you can get on a team with the Florida Gators this season. I love them in every way possible. Kyle Trask is going to have a breakout season while playing with Kyle Pitts and Dameon Pierce out of the backfield. The Gators also have a stellar defense with excellent coaching so if they can put all these pieces together smoothly I expect a huge season for this squad.
#4 Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners are going to do what the Sooners do best this year and that is put up a zillion points and play no defense. With a conference only schedule that method of playing can get these Sooners through an undefeated season. Spencer Rattler is coming in at QB and will win the Heisman, if the Sooners defense can make a few stops in crunch time this will be a very good team again this season.
#5 Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia is going to have a pretty good season this year but I think there a few teams just better than them in the SEC. The Bulldogs have a few questions that need to be answered much like Alabama and that is who takes over for Jake Fromm? After a disappointing season from Fromm the Bulldogs get two transfer QB’s in Jaimie Newman and JT Daniels. Daniels is still recovering from a torn ACL so I believe Newman will get the rod to start the year but that could change throughout the season. The Dawgs also will have a stellar defense this season.
#6 LSU Tigers
The defending national champions unfortunately lost a lot of that talent from last year. They will return star WR and DB in Ja’marr Chase and Derrick Stingley Jr. but other than that almost everyone from last year is gone. LSU will still be fairly good but will be no where close to the level they played at last year.
#7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Irish will finally be apart of a conference this season and hopefully will change their minds on being an independent after this year. The Irish would probably have been a bit lower in these rankings if it wasn’t for the departure of OSU, PSU and Oregon from the list but they will still have a decent year for Notre Dame standards. They will most likely beat up on everyone in the ACC but won’t get past Clemson.
#8 Auburn Tigers
Coming into this season Auburn would not have been on my mind to make my preseason top 10 but yet here we are. Bo Nix is coming into his sophomore year with a little bit of experience under his belt and showed some flashes of greatness last year so if he can possibly put it all together this year they’ll have a great year. The Auburn defense loses a big player in Derrick Brown but have a few studs to pick up the slack and maintain a solid defense this year.
#9 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Chubba Hubbard will be a huge key to the Cowboys success this season in many ways. The Cowboys won’t have the greatest defense this year and will need to make up for it on the offensive side with Hubbard. QB Spencer Sanders and Biletnikoff finalist, Tylan Wallace will also be a huge part of this team so depending on how they preform will reflect this teams record.
#10 Texas A&M
The Aggies are returning a very solid experienced QB in Kellen Mond alongside an above average defense this season. A&M’s schedule is one of the more challenging in the SEC this season so they will have to take advantage of the lower tier teams and then hopefully steal a game from Alabama, Auburn, Florida or LSU. No fans in the stadium will be a huge disadvantage for the Aggies also this season.
