Make sure to read My Updated CFB Top 10 Week 13 before reading this. This week was rivalry week and as always it was one of the craziest weeks of the year. Some upsets, some big wins and some blowouts. Before we look forward to championship weekend, let’s take a look at how the top teams performed this weekend.
#1 LSU Tigers (12-0)
Last week: 50-7 W vs Texas A&M
Next week: vs #4 Georgia (SEC Champ.)
The Tigers rout the Aggies in another blowout win and are now focused on the SEC Championship game.
#2 Ohio State Buckeyes (12-0)
Last week: 56-27 W at #13 Michigan
Next week: vs #12 Wisconsin (B1G TEN Champ.)
No surprise that the Buckeyes get another huge win on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. They now look ahead to playing the Badgers in Indy next week to secure a playoff spot.
#3 Clemson Tigers (12-0)
Last week: 38-3 W at South Carolina
Next week: vs Virginia (ACC Champ.)
Clemson stays undefeated with a big win over SC and looks to putting a beatdown on Virginia next week because unlike the 2 teams above them a loss would put them out of the playoff picture since Clemson had such a weak schedule this year.
#4 Utah Utes (11-1)
Last week: 45-15 W vs Colorado
Next week: vs #14 Oregon (PAC-12 Champ.)
The Utes are now in the driver’s seat of a playoff berth. With a loss from Alabama in the Iron Bowl everything lines up perfectly for Utah to make the playoffs if they can manage to get a win vs Oregon.
#5 Georgia Bulldogs (11-1)
Last week: 52-7 W vs Georgia Tech
Next week: vs #2 LSU (SEC Champ.)
Some may say the Dawgs control their own destiny meaning with a win vs LSU they would get into the playoffs. There is no way to know what the committee thinks as of now but I would probably say depending on this weeks rankings it would give us a better look as to how the committee views the 456 teams before conference championship week.
#6 Oklahoma Sooners (11-1)
Last week: 34-16 W vs #21 Oklahoma State
Next week: vs #9 Baylor (Big 12 Champ.)
The Sooners playoff hopes are now a lot more reasonable with a loss from Alabama. According to last weeks rankings it still looks like the committee views Utah and Georgia better than the Sooners so they would probably need a loss from both of those teams to make the playoffs.
#7 Alabama Crimson Tide (10-2)
Last week: 48-45 L at #15 Auburn
Next week: No Game
For the first time in the history of the CFB Playoff the Alabama Crimson Tide will not be seen playing in a playoff semifinal game. Even without this loss Alabama may still not have gotten into the playoffs but with 2 losses now under their belt their playoff hopes are officially over.
#8 Baylor Bears (11-1)
Last week: 61-6 W at Kansas
Next week: vs #7 Oklahoma (Big 12 Champ.)
The Baylor Bears could be in perfect position to make the playoffs if they didn’t blow a 25 point lead to Oklahoma. With a win over Oklahoma and a few losses from the teams above them things could get interesting as to who gets the #4 spot.
#9 Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2)
Last week: 27-6 W vs Rutgers
Next week: No game
The Nittany Lions beat up on a very bad Rutgers team and look to hopefully get to a NY6 Bowl game.
#10 Wisconsin Badgers (10-2)
Last week: 38-17 W at #8 Minnesota
Next week: vs #1 Ohio State (B1G TEN Champ.)
The Badgers are heading to Indy to try and put an end to the Buckeyes undefeated season and make a NY6 Bowl game.
