Make sure to read My Updated CFB Top 10 Week 6 before reading this. As sad as it is to say we are unfortunately half way through this year’s college football season. This also means that we are in the part of the season where the playoff picture gets a little wild. Much like this week there will most likely be more upsets throughout the rest of the season. So with that being said Let’s get into how my top 10 looks after week 7.
#1 Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0)
Last week: Bye
Next week: @ Northwestern
The Buckeyes were on a bye this week and head to Northwestern next week to keep their undefeated record.
#2 Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0)
Last week: 47-28 W @ #24 Texas A&M
Next week: vs Tennessee
This looked to be Alabama’s first real test of the year by playing their first ranked opponent and they clearly passed this test with ease. Heading to Kyle field vs a pretty good A&M team I thought this game would have been much closer but I guess you can see just how good Alabama really is.
#3 LSU Tigers (6-0)
Last week: 42-28 W vs #7 Florida
Next week: @ Mississippi State
This LSU team has something really special going on in Baton Rouge. I believe with their talent and coaching this team could easily make the playoffs. With a few more tough games coming up with Auburn and Alabama they definitely have to win one of these games to make the playoffs but if they win 2 it would be a virtual lock for them to make the playoffs.
#4 Clemson Tigers (6-0)
Last week: 45-14 W vs Florida State
Next week: @ Louisville
I’m really not entirely sold on this team still being the powerhouse of last year but there will be no way to prove it until the playoffs since Clemson plays in the worst power 5 conference and has one of the weakest schedules in the nation. But they are still a pretty good team so the #4 spot seems fitting for them at the moment.
#5 Oklahoma Sooners (6-0)
Last week: 34-27 W vs #11 Texas
Next week: vs West Virginia
This is a huge jump from the Sooners from being at #8 on this list last week. After this win over Texas they have proven that they can yet again play with the top teams in the nation so with losses from a team like Georgia this opens up a spot in the top 5 for Oklahoma.
#6 Wisconsin Badgers (6-0)
Last week: 38-0 W vs #25 Michigan State
Next week: @ Illinois
The Badgers have also made a huge jump from being ranked #10 last week. Although Michigan State is nothing special beating a top 25 team 38-0 is still very impressive. The Badgers will be truly tested in 2 weeks when they head to Ohio State.
#7 Georgia Bulldogs (5-1)
Last week: 20-17 L (2OT) vs South Carolina
Next week: vs Kentucky
This game was a complete shock to pretty much everyone. Who would have thought that South Carolina could keep it this close with Georgia in Athens and then one of if not the best kicker in nation misses the game tying kick for Georgia this was just a complete shock all around. This loss really hurts the Bulldogs as there is clearly 2-3 other good SEC teams making a case for the playoffs with no losses or a better loss than this so it’s going to be a struggle to make a case if your the Bulldogs.
#8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-1)
Last week: 30-27 W vs USC
Next week: Bye
The Irish fell from the #6 spot last week to here at #8 even though they won this week. As crazy as it sounds this was a bad weekend for the Irish while they beat their rival, USC. Notre Dame’s loss to Georgia didn’t look that bad when they were top 3 in the nation but after their loss to South Carolina that loss is no longer as good as it sounds when it comes to a playoff case.
#9 Penn State Nittany Lions (6-0)
Last week: 17-12 W @ #17 Iowa
Next week: vs #16 Michigan
This is Penn State’s first appearance on this list this year and a well deserved apparence. After a disappointing year last year the Nittany Lions are back to where they want to be and look like they can and will put up a fight with the other elite teams in the B1G TEN.
#10 Auburn Tigers (5-1)
Last week: Bye
Next week: @ Arkansas
The Tigers were on a bye this week and head to Arkansas next week.
