Make sure to read My Updated CFB Top 10 Week 4 before reading this. There weren’t really many great matchups this week and not many true upsets but a lot of top teams proved what they are really about this weekend. All the teams in the top 10 won this week but surprisingly there will be a lot of change in this weeks top 10. Let’s see how my top 10 looks after week 5.
#1 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)
Last week: 48-7 W @ Nebraska
Next week: vs #25 Michigan State
As much as I hate to say it, this team is the real deal. Based off this season so far the Buckeyes have been the best team through 5 weeks and with a very underwhelming performance from Clemson it opens up this #1 spot for a new team and unfortunately the Buckeyes are most deserving of it.
#2 Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0)
Last week: 59-31 W vs Ole Miss
Next week: Bye
The Crimson Tide stay at #2 while the teams around them mix and match ranks and as long as Alabama keeps playing like this they’ll stay in this 1-2 range for the remainder of the season.
#3 Georgia Bulldogs (4-0)
Last week: Bye
Next week: @ Tennessee
The Bulldogs were on a bye this week and take on Tennessee in Rocky Top next weekend.
#4 LSU Tigers (5-0)
Last week: Bye
Next week: vs Utah State
The Tigers were on a bye this week and take on Utah State at home next weekend.
#5 Clemson Tigers (5-0)
Last week: 21-20 W @ UNC
Next week: Bye
And finally the Clemson Tigers come in at #5 this week. The Tigers did not look like a playoff team on Saturday and with such a weak schedule like theirs they’re going to need a little bit of help to get back into the playoff conversation in my opinion. Teams like Georgia and LSU looks to clearly be better than Clemson right now so either one of them is going to have to lose at some point and Clemson is going to need to run up the score on everyone they play.
#6 Texas Longhorns (4-0)
Last week: Bye
Next week: @ West Virginia
The Longhorns were on a bye this week and take on WVU in Morgantown next weekend.
#7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-1)
Last week: 35-20 W vs #18 Virginia
Next week: vs Bowling Green
This win over Virginia is big for the Irish as they are ranked team but I can’t really see a situation where ND makes the playoffs as of now but they can still have a good season when it’s all said and done.
#8 Auburn Tigers (5-0)
Last week: 56-23 W vs Mississippi State
Next week: @ #9 Florida
Auburn has been nothing short of great so far this season but next week will be there first real SEC test. The Tiger of Auburn head down to Gainsville to take on the Gators in what will be a top 10 matchup and a matchup that will make or break both teams seasons.
#9 Oklahoma Sooners (4-0)
Last week: 55-16 W vs Texas Tech
Next week: @ Kansas
It’s no secret the Sooners can put up a lot of points vs below average teams but we still haven’t seen them put up points vs good team due to their schedule and won’t see how they do against top teams until they take on Texas.
#10 Oregon Ducks (4-1)
Last week: Bye
Next week: vs #15 Cal
The Ducks were on a bye this week and take on Cal at Autzen Stadium next weekend.
