A pretty wild week 1 is in the books with a few upsets and crazy finishes and that’s what college football is all about. There won’t be much change in my top 10 since pretty much all the top 10 teams took care of their business this week but there will still be some shake up towards the bottom of the list. So let’s get into how I think the top 10 should look after week 1.
#1 Clemson Tigers (1-0)
Last week: 52-14 W vs Georgia Tech
Next week: vs #12 Texas A&M
No surprise that Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers dominated this week and stay at the #1 spot.
#2 Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0)
Last week: 42-3 W vs Duke
Next week: vs New Mexico State
Alabama had a pretty slow start vs Duke going scoreless in the first quarter but it really was Alabama’s game all day long. The tide rolled all afternoon over the Blue Devils leading them to a record of 1-0.
#3 Georgia Bulldogs (1-0)
Last Week: 30-6 W @ Vanderbilt
Next Week: vs Murray State
This was supposed to be a true road game for the Dawgs but many pictures and videos surfaced of a Georgia fan packed stadium in Vanderbilt. Nothing really special happened this game a lot of what was expected to happen happened so it’s on to next week for the Dawgs.
#4 Michigan Wolverines (1-0)
Last week: 40-21 W vs Middle Tennessee
Next week: vs Army
The Wolverines didn’t start this game very hot but after the first couple drives it was all maize and blue for the rest of the game. We got to see some flashes of Michigan’s new offense with a few deep balls going for long touchdowns so I expect a few more of these big wins out of Michigan this year.
#5 Texas Longhorns (1-0)
Last week: 45-14 W vs Louisiana Tech
Next week: vs #6 LSU
The Longhorns dominated this game vs LT but this was really just a warmup game for next week’s matchup vs LSU. Next week will be a huge game for both teams and will put the winning team in great position for the playoffs.
#6 Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)
Last week: 45-21 W vs FAU
Next week: vs Cincinatti
Honestly the Buckeyes did impress me on Saturday but FAU is not a very good team by any measure so things could look a lot different once the Buckeyes enter B1G TEN play.
#7 Oklahoma Sooners (1-0)
Last week: 49-31 W vs Houston
Next week: vs South Dakota
Jalen Hurts and the Sooners put on a show Sunday night but i’m not convinced on them yet. Granted they played pretty good but it was vs a non power 5 team in Houston so I’m going to need to see a little bit more from this team.
#8 LSU Tigers (1-0)
Last week: 55-3 W vs Georgia Southern
Next week: @ #9 Texas
LSU played a very good game this week and look to roll that over into this weekends game vs Texas. Like I said before this game vs Texas is going to make or break both team’s seasons.
#9 Auburn Tigers (1-0)
Last week: 27-21 W vs #11 Oregon
Next week: vs Tulane
Auburn vs Oregon was one of the best games I’ve watched in a while with a huge comeback from Auburn and a huge play at the end. This win really helps Auburn’s resume if they want to make a case for the playoffs. Freshman QB, Bo Nix, honestly played a pretty bad game on Saturday and is getting praised for this game when he really should not be but I think he’ll have a great career otherwise.
#10 Oregon Ducks (0-1)
Last week: 27-21 L vs #16 Auburn
Next week: vs Nevada
Watching Oregon fall apart vs Auburn was so hard to watch after being so high on Oregon for this year. This loss really hurts Oregon’s resume for the playoffs but they still could win out and win the PAC 12 and make a case for the playoffs but as we know 1 loss could mean everything when it comes to the playoffs.
