Atlantic 10 Weekend Review

One of our games to watch this weekend was Richmond vs. Davidson.  You may have asked why.  It’s because Richmond has beaten Davidson is their last 4 meetings.  This past Saturday was a different story.  The Wildcats were up as much as 25 and ended up with a 13 point victory.  Luke Frampton was 1 three shy of tying Stephen Curry’s record for 3-pointers in a game.  He had a total of 8.  He was absolutely unconscious from beyond the arc.  As usual, Jon Axel Gudmundsson nearly put up a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.  Davidson started out the first half on a 9-0 run and started the second half with an 8-0 run.  Richmond just came out flat at the start of both halves and couldn’t make a comeback.  Dayton vs. St. Bonaventure was an absolute thriller.  The Flyers came up with a tough road win in double overtime.  Courtney Stockard led St. Bonaventure with a career-high 36 points and 10 rebounds.  In double overtime, Jordan Davis made a 3 to give Dayton a 4 point lead with 15 seconds left.  Ryan Mikesell led Dayton with 21 points.

VCU came up with a win over UMass at home, 68-50.  This was a 1 point game in the second half so the score doesn’t show how close this was.  VCU had to work for this one.  UMass’ schedule has been brutal thus far.  They have had to play St. Louis, Dayton, George Mason and VCU all in a row.  Those are currently 4 of the 5 best teams in the conference.  They have played each team extremely tough.  Their 0-5 conference record does not show how hard they’ve been playing and how competitive they’ve been against top teams.  They are due for some wins.  They have a good opportunity hosting their next 2 games.  Another thriller this weekend was Duquesne vs. George Washington.  The Dukes quickly opened the game leading 26-9 midway through the first half.  GW settled in and closed the half trailing by 6 at the half.  The game ended up going into overtime.  Duquesne went on an 8-0 run during overtime leading to their road win.  The Dukes were lead by Michael Hughes with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
