This Week in the Atlantic 10

This was yet another unpredictable week in the conference. It started on Tuesday night with St. Joseph’s beating Davidson to give the Wildcats their first loss of the conference season and give the Hawks their first.  Troy Holston, who barely ever gets in the game for St. Joe’s, was the difference maker in this one.  He had 11 points in Lamarr Kimble’s absence.  Some questionable officiating calls near the end of the game, along with guys stepping up for St. Joe’s gave them the 1 point win.  Davidson hosts Richmond on Saturday.  St. Joe’s heads to Saint Louis tonight.  Another good game on Tuesday night was Saint Louis at Fordham.  The Billikens squeaked out a 3 point win in the Bronx.

The matchup to see on Wednesday was Dayton at VCU.  The Rams came up with a 5 point victory at home.  VCU was led by Marcus Evans with 17 points.  The key to their victory was the bench, who scored 20 of the 76 points.  Dayton’s bench only had 9 points.  With 34 seconds remaining, the score was tied at 69, until Evans knocked down a 3 to seal the game for the Rams.  This was a good bounce back victory for VCU after a tough loss at Davidson.  George Mason continues to impress by winning 2 tough road games in a row in tough environments, Rhode Island and UMass.  Justin Kier, who I think is a 1st-team all A-10 player, scored 22 points in the road win.  They had high expectations coming into this season, but started out horribly in the non-conference.  The Patriots seem to be on the right track at the right time.
