Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals Recap

#1 Rhode Island 76, #8 VCU 67:

Despite one of VCU’s best performances of the year, Rhode Island found a way to come out on top.  Jeff Dowtin led the Rams with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.  Jared Terrell added 16 points.  Justin Tillman gave all he had in his last game in a VCU uniform, putting up 23 points and 15 rebounds.  De’Riante Jenkins added 16 points.  After VCU had a 59-58 lead with 6:18 left in the game, Rhode Island went on a 7-0 run and never trailed again.  VCU finished the season with an overall record of 18-15.  Next up for Rhode Island is a rematch of URI’s senior night game against St. Joe’s on Saturday at 1.  Click HERE for highlights.


#4 St. Joseph’s 68, #5 George Mason 49:

After leading by one at halftime, St. Joe’s pulled away in the second half to take down George Mason.  Nick Robinson led the Hawks with 14 points and 9 rebounds.  Shavar Newkirk added 13 points and 5 assists.  Jaire Grayer led George Mason with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  St. Joe’s held Mason to 29% shooting and 2/25 from three.  They also held George Mason’s leading scorer, Otis Livingston, to 8 points on 3/13 shooting.  George Mason finished this year with an overall record of 16-17.  Next up for St. Joe’s is a match-up with Rhode Island, who they most recently beat by 30 on the road.  Click HERE for highlights.


#2 St. Bonaventure 83, #7 Richmond 77:

After a late run by Richmond, St. Bonaventure squeaked out a win to advance to the semifinals.  Matt Mobley led the Bonnies with 29 points.  Courtney Stockard added 19 points.  Khwan Fore led Richmond with 25 points.  Jacob Gilyard added 18 points and 4 steals.  After leading by 17 at one point, St. Bonaventure seemed to think it was over.  Richmond came back and brought it down to two with 29 seconds left.  A few free throws and a couple key stops led the Bonnies’ to a win.  Richmond finished the year with an overall record of 12-20.  Their record doesn’t show how talented their team is.  They are returning all five starters and should be looking forward to success in the future.  Next up for St. Bonaventure is a semifinal match-up with Davidson.  Click HERE for highlights.


#3 Davidson 78, #6 Saint Louis 60:

Peyton Aldridge had another 30+ point game in Davidson’s quarterfinal win over Saint Louis.  He had 35 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.  Kellan Grady added 19 points and 5 rebounds.  Davidson hit 11 threes, shooting 48%.  They had 18 assists on 28 made baskets.  Saint Louis ended their season with an overall record of 17-16.  Next up for the Wildcats is a match-up with St. Bonaventure on Saturday at 3:30.  Click HERE for highlights.
