Mets acquired LHP Daniel Zamora and cash considerations for LHP Josh Smoker.
Zamora, a 40th-round pick in 2015 out of Stony Brook University, posted a shiny 1.76 ERA and 63/19 K/BB ratio in 56 1/3 innings last season between the High-A and Double-A affiliates of the Pirates. The 24-year-old might have a future as a left-handed relief specialist at the major league level. (rotoworld)
Smoker was designated for assignment by the Mets last week to clear a roster spot for Jose Reyes, who is returning on a one-year, $2 million deal. Smoker struggled to a 5.11 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 56 1/3 innings last season with New York, but he holds an impressive 11.7 career K/9 at the major league level and could prove to be a decent low-cost pickup for Pittsburgh (rotoworld)
