The second firing of a head coach in the NBA was just announced.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Memphis Grizzlies have decided to part ways with David Fizdale as their head coach. J.B Bickerstaff was named the immediate interim coach.
The Grizzlies are currently on a 8 game losing streak and have been decimated by injuries. Mike Conley, Chandler Parsons, JaMychal Green, Chandler Parsons, Wayne Selden and Ben McElemore have all missed time.
The benching of Marc Gasol in the latest lost to the Nets may have been Fizadale’s death sentence. Gasol was irate over the benching and expressed his frustrations to the media.
Making a franchise icon unhappy in the middle of a long losing streak never ends well for a coach.
Fizdale finishes his Memphis tenure with a 50-51 career record in one full season plus. He should have no problem landing on another staff some time soon and becoming a head coach again.
Fizdale led the Grizzlies to the playoffs last season losing in 6 games to the San Antonio Spurs.
At least we’ll always have this to remember Fizdale by:
