From the son of a PGA Professional to a PGA Champion, Justin Thomas takes home the PGA Championship. The day started with Kevin Kisner leading comfortably, while Hideki Matsuyama seemed poised to take home the title. Justin Thomas started the day 2 back but hit it into 3 different bunkers to make bogey on the first and he would play the first 8 holes at 1-under par. Kevin Kisner was solid in the first six holes but hit it into the water with his second on seven, and he made bogey. Hideki Matsuyama bogeyed 2 but made birdies on holes 6 and 7 to move into the lead. On hole 9, Justin Thomas made a 35 foot for birdie to move within one of the lead of Matsuyama. Meanwhile a host of challengers made birdies. Francesco Molinari moved to 7-under, Patrick Reed moved to 6-under and Rickie Fowler moved to 5-under after making birdies on holes 12-15. On the 10th hole Hideki Matsuyama made a 25 footer to take the lead outright at 8-under, while Justin Thomas had an 8-footer that hit the lip and stuck out for 8 seconds before falling for birdie to move to 7-under. Meanwhile, Chris Stroud made a birdie on 9 and Kevin Kisner made a birdie on 10 to join the group at 7-under. Hideki Matsuyama had the lead but bogeyed 11 and 12 to fall out of lead. Stroud and Kisner bogeyed 11 and Molinari bogeyed 16 and Justin Thomas was the leader. Thomas responded by pulling a shot left only to chip-in from off the green to move to to 8-under and two ahead of the pack. Reed, Kisner and Matsuyama all birdied 15 as they all were at 7-under and 1 back. Reed looked primed to post 7-under but came up well short on his chip on 18 as he made bogey to drop to 6-under. Matsuyama and Kisner bogeyed 16 as Thomas was the leader by two again. With a two shot lead on 17, Thomas hit hit tee shot to 15 feet and he made the putt to move to 9-under. Thomas bogeyed 18 but it didn’t matter as he took home the title.
