Ducks take Game 4 in OT over Oilers

Game 3 was a physical battle between two teams that hate each other. The Ducks would show up and dominate most of the game winning 6-3 on the road. This makes the road teams in this series 3-0. The Oilers look to change that coming into game 4. The 1st period was a fast paced offensive showing from both teams. Both goalies would make some big saves, here is Gibson on a Maroon tip from McDavid early in the game…

Crazy stick save. Coming into the series, the Ducks weak penalty killing vs. the Oilers dangerous power play was a match up to watch. The Oilers got 2 power play goals in game 1 and got the game winner on the power play in game 2, both wins. In game 3 they were shut out on the power play and lost. Late in the 1st, the Ducks would commit a too many men on the ice and go on the penalty kill. The Oilers would score only 18 seconds into the power play. Lucic was in front of the net and corralled and bouncing puck and hit it off the post and in. The crowd would get into the game and shortly after the Oilers would strike again. McDavid and Draisatl would get a 2 on 1 break..

Nice play by McDavid to stay heads up and clean up his bad pass. Both teams would total 26 shots in the 1st (16-10 Oilers). The Ducks would come out and absolutely own the 2nd period scoring 3 goals on 21 shots (Oilers had 5 shots). The first would come just two minutes into the game when Getzlaf wrists a laser past Talbot. His 6th of the playoffs and 3rd this series. Kinda controversial because Perry bumped Talbot but they were outside of the crease so the goal stood. The second goal was a great pass and shoot from Getzlaf and Rakell…

That takes so much skill to do that, jump pass one-timer. Wow. Another point for Getzlaf, who would get the third Ducks goal. He is just all over the ice and making plays. He would slap/poke check the defender with the puck and end up scoring…

The Ducks would have all the momentum going into the 3rd period up 3-2. Both teams would trade chances and the goalies would make some big saves. Both teams would also do a great job blocking shots. Late in the 3rd, the Ducks would commit a bad delay of game penalty. Oilers already have one power play goal in the game. They would get some chances but not capitalize until a few seconds after the power play so it would not count as a power play goal but it essential was. After a shot produced a rebound, a 22 yearold Drake Caggiula would get his first career playoff goal…

Great play as he was getting hit. Silfverberg was late getting in position to body him up. The game would need overtime. The Oilers would get the first attack of the OT period, but a blocked shot would send the Ducks on the assault. A good fore check by Silfverberg forced a turnover to Getzlaf who dishes back to Silfverberg for the one-time game winner…

Getzlaf and Silverberg have been the MVPs for the Ducks no doubt. Silverberg has a goal in every game this series, two in game 3. Getzlaf has 4 goals and 8 total points. The Ducks did a good job in the last two periods to chip and slow McDavid down. The Ducks won 62% of the face offs which also helps. This also makes the road team 4-0 in the series.

Series: 2-2 tied and headed back to Anaheim. It is essentially a 3-game series now. The Oilers are 4-1 on the road this playoffs. Getzlaf and Silverberg have been to much in games 3 and 4 which produced wins. In games 1 and 2, the Ducks just blocked 9 and 16 shots respectively. In games 3 and 4 they blocked over 20 shots. They are doing a better job of disrupting the shooting of the skilled Oilers forwards. The Oilers need to get back to getting the puck in deep and playing the physical game. They need to disrupt Getzlaf and Silverberg when they are on the ice and chip them like the Ducks are doing to McDavid.
