Free agent running back and the New Orleans Saints are closing in on a deal for this upcoming season.
Ian Rapoport was the first to report a possible deal. The deal is worth a reported 3 million plus in salary for the 2017 season.
No deal is official but the two sides are moving into an agreement.
Peterson who had visited with the Saints earlier in the NFL off-season left his scheduled visit without a deal but it was reported that both sides felt optimistic that the two parties would come to an agreement.
Peterson has missed significant time in two of the past three seasons with a knee injury. He has only appeared in 20 of the possible 48 games the past three years.
The Minnesota Vikings all time leader in rushing yards had 37 carries for 72 yards and no touchdowns last year. Peterson averaged 1.9 a carry.
It’s a low risk – high upside move for the Saints. If Peterson returns to form, the Saints get one of the NFL’s best backs at a discounted rate. The Saints are in win now mode as Drew Brees could retire any season now. This move will give them the opportunity to be a better football team in 2017.
