The New York Mets will host the Atlanta Braves in their second game of the season. The game can be seen on SNY and heard on 710 FM WOR. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 ET.
The Mets hand the ball to another one of their ace’s, Jacob deGrom. deGrom is looking for a bounce back season. deGrom didn’t have a Jacob deGrom year last year, only going 7-8 with a 3.04 ERA. Good for most starters for deGRom that is an off year. He battled injuries all year and was finally shut down at the end of the year. “He underwent season-ending surgery on his ulnar nerve in late September in order to relieve discomfort in his elbow and numbness in his fingers which had plagued him during the 2016 season. (Newsday).” deGrom looks to have a better, healthier year this year because when he is on his game, there is not many pitchers better than him.
The Mets should go with their traditional lineup against a right handed pitcher. The lineup will look like so:
- Jose Reyes – 3B
- Asdrubal Cabrera – SS
- Yoenis Cespedes – LF
- Curtis Granderson – CF
- Neil Walker – 2B
- Jay Bruce – RF
- Lucas Duda – 1B
- Travis D’arnaud – C
- Jacob deGrom – P
However, the real story for this game is the return of Bartolo “Big Sexy” Colon. Bart is one of the most beloved players in Mets history. The fun loving, goofy, big fella, gave the Mets so much fun over the last 3 years. It was a joy watching him play in the Mets uniform. There was not one Mets fan who dislikes Bart. He was also one of the most consisted Mets pitchers over the last 3 years. The timeless wonder, never got hurt and won 44 games for the Mets. He was signed with the Braves this off season and every Mets fan was crushed. We knew it was going to happen, but it was still sad to see him go.
Now, Bartolo makes his Braves debut, in Citi Field, against the Mets. What a slap in the face for Mets fan. The wound is still really fresh, in fact blood is still pouring out, and the MLB schedules Braves vs Mets opening series, and we have to witness this tonight? I am so not ready for this.
My emotions are all over the place. Bart, I love you, but I hope we hit 8 homeruns off you. But you deserve every standing ovation you’re going to get tonight.
Here are the best gifs of Bart in a Mets uniform. Gone but never forgotten.
God, do I miss Bart.
